Significance: Sag Harbor is perhaps one of the most historic towns on Long Island's east end, initially settled and incorporated by the English in the early 1700s. The town played a role in America's Revolutionary War, and was even designated as the first official port of entry to the United States after the Second Session of Congress in July 1789. During this time the village was quickly becoming a booming, global whaling port, with "more tons of square-rigged vessels engaged in commerce than even New York City," lasting well into the 1800s. (The Sag Harbor Whaling Museum is a must-visit while in town.)
This tee features the memorial windmill located at the end of Long Wharf built in 1966, a replica of a 1760s-era original, honoring this rich whaling history.
